Seven robotics teams from Mansfield ISD competed in the Texas Computer Education Association (TCEA) State Robotics Contest held May 2, 2015 at Duncanville High School.
Teams from DP Morris Elementary, Erma Nash Elementary, and Worley Middle competed in Intermediate Arena, which is a prescribed-problem contest where students build and program a robot to complete tasks on a playing field. Donna Shepard Intermediate competed in Advanced Inventions and Mary Orr Intermediate in Intermediate Inventions. The Inventions contest is an open-ended challenge where students use marketing, writing, programming, constructing, and presentation skills to find a solution for a problem of their choice.
Three MISD teams finished in the top ten in their category:
Operation Baby Savers, OBS, from Mary Orr Intermediate School, placed 3rd (out of 38 teams) in the Intermediate Inventions State Contest with their robot invention created to remind caregivers their child is in the back seat. As they exit the vehicle, the robot is programmed to sound an alarm if it detects a child in the car seat.
Light Savers, from Mary Orr Intermediate School, placed 6th (out of 38 teams) in the Intermediate Inventions State Contest with their robot invention designed to turn on a light switch as a person enters a room and then turn it off upon exit.
RoboTigers, from Worley Middle School, placed 8th (out of 71 teams) in the Food Frenzy Arena Intermediate Contest where they built and programmed a robot to solve specific tasks.
Since the beginning of the school year, these seven teams have dedicated countless hours before and after school to design, build, program, collaborate, invent, and innovate. Their success is attributed to their hard work and dedication as well as their unique problem-solving skills, cooperation, and detailed long-term planning. Congratulations on your outstanding achievements!
Also, a special thank you to their coaches who have dedicated their time and effort to their teams. We appreciate all that you do for you students!
